The health of your eyes matters to you. It matters to us too, which is why we are offering a new way to check for potentially serious conditions that can affect not only your eyes – but your overall well-being.
At Stanford Opticians we use a state-of-the-art retinal camera to take a digital photograph of the back of your eye. This allows us to instantly diagnose a number of common conditions. This test is non-invasive, painless, simple and quick. What’s more, this image is stored so we can monitor for changes to the condition of your retina with every eye test you have. This gives us an invaluable ongoing record of health and condition of your eyes.
Retinal screening is a valuable health check for people of all ages. It is available for £12.00. The benefits are clear, so enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your eyes are in tip-top condition.
What Retinal Screening Checks For
Retinal screening checks for a number of conditions including:
Glaucoma
Glaucoma damages the optic nerve at the point where it leaves the eye. Some for of glaucoma affects around 2% of people over the age of 40. The danger with chronic glaucoma is that there is no pain and your eyesight will deteriorate so gradually that you adapt to the change. When you start to notice a problem with your vision associated with chronic glaucoma it is often too late to do anything as permanent damage may have already occurred.
Diabetes
Diabetic retinopathy is a major cause of visual impairment and blindness among adults. Here in the UK, more than 2 million people have been identified as having diabetes, though early detection greatly improves the success rate of treatment.
Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of your lens, causing your vision to become blurry. Many people over 60 have cataracts and the vast majority are treated successfully.
Age Related Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration causes gradual breakdown of the macula (the central part of your retina that gives you all the definition of images). The risk of developing macular degeneration increases with age and it is the most common cause of blindness in individuals over the age of 50.
Choroidal Naevus
Just as freckles, moles and birthmarks can occur on your skin, a naevus can also be found inside your eye. Although most naevi do not require treatment or cause visual symptoms, it is important to monitor them regularly to ensure they don”t change in size, shape or characteristics.

That’s fine, I’ll make sure that it is done on the day for you. Thanks for letting us know
